Boot camp for the ladies

Many a South African male can entertain a crowd with stories of “back when I was at boot camp.” The last time I spoke to someone about his boot camp ‘experience’ he had the look of a frightened gazelle on his face and he went on to explain, in excruciating detail, his boot camp ordeal.

Now look what’s happening. Exercise enthusiasts are now paying to go to boot camp, that’s right – they are choosing and paying to be tortured! Forget conscription, these ladies and gentlemen are doing it for fun (if fun is the correct word for it). Adventure boot camps are popping up all over the place and these outdoor exercise programmes offer some amazing results. Most outdoor adventure boot camps comprise of a two- to eight-week outdoor exercise programme where the participants will meet for an hour a day over the entire period of the course. Your particular camp will give you the specifics when you sign up.

At boot camp, participants will receive fitness instruction; nutritional counselling and motivational training combined and designed to help you reach your specific fitness goals. People of all ages, sizes and fitness levels are seeing some remarkable improvements through these programmes. This fairly new and exciting exercise method is a far cry from the packed, hamster cage style, establishments most fitness facilities have become. This is your chance to have an excuse to play outside, every day for a couple of weeks at least, not to mention all the benefits associated with being outdoors.

What benefits can you expect from boot camp?

• Dramatic physical improvement
• Increased strength and endurance
• A firmer, fitter you
• Increased confidence caused by motivation and inspiration
• Exercising outdoors allows you to reconnect with nature whilst taking care of your physical needs.
• Positive lifestyle changes including nutrition.

What sort of exercises will you do?

A variety of exercises will be used to get you into shape and they include:
Core conditioning, short distance running, strength training, rope work, circuit training, hiking, sports drills, obstacle courses and mat work and a whole lot more…

Here’s why you should give boot camp a try:

You will probably experience a dramatic improvement in you physical and mental well-being whilst in the best possible setting. You will also meet great people who share your goals with you and that can help motivate and push you throughout the programme.
